Hermit trail Expedition
The Grand Canyon is home to some of the most awe-inspiring vistas in the world, but for those seeking a more secluded and rugged experience, the Hermit Trail offers an unforgettable adventure. This challenging trail descends nearly 4,000 feet into the canyon, offering stunning views and a sense of solitude that’s hard to find on the more crowded paths like Bright Angel.
Starting at Hermits Rest, a historic stone building at the West Rim, the trail takes you through a variety of landscapes, from scrub brush filled desert terrain to rocky switchbacks and steep cliffs. Along the way, we are treated to breathtaking views of the canyon’s dramatic rock layers and vertical walls. Our goal is Hermit Creek, Monument Creek, and the Colorado River far below. The descent is strenuous, but the rewards are worth every step.
For those willing to take on the challenge, the Hermit Trail offers an opportunity to experience the Grand Canyon in its rawest form, with fewer crowds and more moments of quiet reflection. It's a true backcountry experience, making it an ideal choice for both novice hikers ready for a challenge, and experienced hikers looking for a more remote adventure.
