Argentina Expedition Day 2

Exploring the Nahuel Huapi Traverse: A Hiker’s Paradise in Argentina Day 2

Today our journey takes us deeper into the wild heart of Patagonia.

The Morning:

We began the day early, knowing that we had a long, physically demanding stretch ahead. The trail led us away from the shore of the lake and began its steady ascent up the hills.

By midday, we reached the top of the pass, and the views were nothing short of spectacular. On one side, the lake stretched out like a blue ribbon, while on the other, the towering granite peaks of the Andes thrust upwards, their sheer cliffs disappearing into the clouds.

The Afternoon: Down Into the Valley

After lunch we began our descent into the valley on the other side of the pass. The trail was steeper and more treacherous here, with loose rocks and narrow switchbacks that demanded careful footing. As we made our way down, we descended from the alpine environment into a lush, temperate forest, with moss-draped trees and thick undergrowth.

By late afternoon, we arrived at our campsite near one of the famous Nahuel Huapi huts. We set up camp quickly, eager to rest and reflect on the day’s journey. As the campfire flickered to life, we marveled at the beauty around us—the towering peaks, the thick forests, and the sense of serenity that can only be found in the wilderness.

Reflections on the Day:

Day 2 of the Nahuel Huapi Traverse was everything we had hoped for and more. The physical challenge of the climb was balanced by the beauty of the landscape. Patagonia’s ruggedness has a way of reminding you how small you are in the grand scheme of things, but it also fills you with a deep sense of connection to the natural world. Tomorrow will bring more challenges, but for now, we’re content to be here, in the midst of one of the most pristine wildernesses on Earth.
